According to a source close to Full Tilt Poker, the site’s pros are able to play in any competitor’s open event. The squad’s ability to enter this weekend’s PokerStars North American Poker Tour (NAPT) Main Event appeared to be in doubt.
Whether members of Team Full Tilt or the site’s Red Pros will turn out to the $5,000 buy-in NAPT feature tournament remains to be seen. However, contrary to an article that appeared on ESPN.com, pros of Full Tilt are apparently more than welcome to buy into PokerStars-sponsored events. A source close to the world’s second largest online poker site told Poker News Daily, “Any Full Tilt pro, Red or member of Team Full Tilt, can play in any competitor's open event.”

Currently, Full Tilt sponsored pro Roberto Romanello is second in chips at the PokerStars European Poker Tour (EPT) Copenhagen event with 39 players remaining. Players like Phil Ivey and Andy Bloch, both members of Team Full Tilt, competed in last year’s World Series of Poker (WSOP) Europe Main Event, which is title sponsored by Betfair.

In 2008, Full Tilt Poker pro John Juanda took the prestigious tournament down for £868,000.

Pokerlistings extortion case - Sweden

A 44-year-old man allegedly tried to extort PokerListings for nearly $2 million; the site’s murdered cofounder, Andreas Oscarsson(pictured right), was to testify against him this week on aggravated racketeering charges. The unidentified man claims he was working for operatives of billionaire Stefan Bengtsson, an early investor in PokerListings and one of the richest men in Sweden — supposedly trying to collect promised monies withheld after passage of the UIGEA.

Haley Hintze (former editor of PokerNews) is following the story closely, and she’s dug up the latest from Swedish press (and 2+2). Highlights from her work below, along with a few more clicks worth of info about some of the characters emerging in this tragic tale of a boomtime poker media pioneer who became somebody’s target and a violent casualty after the online affiliate bubble burst.

Plausibly important factoids and connections:

(financial numbers based on current kronor-to-dollar rates of exchange)

It’s common practice in the Swedish press not to name accused criminals until after a verdict is reached; hence the defendant on trial for allegedly trying to extort Andreas Oscarsson (and others?) is known as just the 44-year-old man.

The 44-year-old claims he was working on behalf of a company owned by Stefan Bengtsson, trying to collect $2 million Oscarsson and PokerListings may or may not have owed to them.

Bengtsson invested about $250,000 into PokerListings in 2003. He was set to cash out for more than $7 million in 2006. But then came the UIGEA, and he received only $5 million for his shares.

Police say the indicted 44-year-old started by contacting Oscarsson’s finance people, demanding the $2 million difference. He once showed up unannounced at a PokerListings financial advisor’s home with his demands.

He soon, allegedly, began threatening Oscarsson via phone calls and text messages.

The 44-year-old also showed up to a meeting with PokerListings finance agents with Thomas Möller, former president of the Swedish Hells Angels.

Möller was president of the Hells Angels during the Great Nordic Biker War in the mid-’90s — a three-year gang battle across Scandinavia resulting in 11 dead and 96 wounded.

Möller has not been accused of any crimes in connection with this case.

As the 44-year-old’s extortion/collection efforts were underway, one of Andreas Oscarsson’s advisors was shot in the leg while getting the newspaper outside his house. Two men were arrested and later sentenced for this shooting.

Bengtsson denies any involvement, and has renounced all financial claims against Oscarsson and PokerListings.

Bengstonn was a major investor in the International biz-pol-culture rag, Monocle, which launched in 2007.

Bengstonn, 37, is the nephew of Stefan Persson, 62.

Persson is a second-generation Swedish fashion magnate and philanthropist — and the 18th richest person in the world.

Bengtsson is heir to the H&M fortune; his car collection includes a Koenigsegg, Audi A7 4.2 TDI, BMW Z8, Lamborghini Murcielago, Audi A6 Avant, Lamborghini Gallardo, and a Bentley Continental GT.

He is not a suspect in this case nor Oscarsson’s murder.

Another Andreas Oscarsson was shot to death a few months earlier in the same town; Swedish police have deemed it a case of mistaken identity.

Swedish police say they still have no suspects in the murder of PokerListings’ Andreas Oscarsson.

Now it seems the variation bitch has bitten for Isildur1. Only a few days ago he was several million dollars in the black. Today that figure is a relatively small $750,000. So what’s been happening?

Isildur took on Patrik Antonius in a little heads up match. $500/$1000 Pot Limit Omaha was the table of choice and one pot at that table made online poker history.

The pre-flop action was a raise-fest! Isildur raised it up to $3,000. Antonius re-raised to $9,000. Isildur wasn’t going to be pushed around by the Finnish pretty boy and re-raised again to $27,000. Antonius fired again and made it $81,000 to go. Finally Isildur called and a huge pot had already developed.

All the money found its way into the middle and a world record online pot of $1.3 million was set for the winner of the hand. The turn and river failed to hit any of the out cards for Isildur1 and the chips moved across to Antonius.

The Finn has now won the two largest online poker pots in history to date. Both of those pots were against Isildur1 who must be wondering what he did wrong to upset the poker Gods so much. On a positive note Isildur is obviously more entertaining than the hapless Jedward. The young Swede can probably sing and dance far better than the twins too

A skull found earlier this month in northwestern Colorado has been identified as that of a Grand Junction woman whose husband was a suspect in her disappearance seven years ago, authorities said Friday.

Sabrina Bebb-Jones was last seen in the city on Sept. 16, 1997, and she was reported missing two days later. Police launched an in-depth investigation and considered her disappearance a homicide. But her husband, Marcus Jones, rebuffed efforts to question him about his missing wife, and detectives hadn't received any leads in the case for years.

A rancher discovered the skull on Oct. 2 while driving cattle near the summit of Douglas Pass in western Garfield County. Investigators brought the skull to Dr. John Bull, a forensic odontologist in Grand Junction who used dental records to identify it.

It's unknown how Bebb-Jones, 31, died. A search party returned to the area where her skull was found to look for more bones but didn't find any.

The Garfield County Sheriff's Department, which is conducting a joint investigation with the Grand Junction Police Department into Bebb-Jones's death, announced the identification in a release Friday but released no other information. Sheriff Lou Vallario and Undersheriff Tim Templon could not be reached for comment Friday afternoon.

Bebb-Jones, who along with her husband owned the Hotel Melrose on Colorado Avenue at the time she disappeared, was last seen in Grand Junction leaving the hotel in a van with her 3-year-old son. A young English woman staying at the hotel reported her missing Sept. 18, 1997, telling police that Jones said his wife left town after the couple argued Sept. 16 at Mesa Mall.

Jones and the 3-year-old left Grand Junction on Sept. 17, telling the English woman they were going to look for Bebb-Jones in Las Vegas, where she was raised and had family.

The next day, Jones, the boy and a woman checked into a motel in Salina, Utah. Motel and restaurant workers identified the woman with Jones as Bebb-Jones.
Six hours after checking in at the Salina motel, Jones and his son checked out and drove to Las Vegas.
On Sept. 21, the child was found alone in a Las Vegas hotel room and was taken into custody by Nevada child protective services. The next day, Jones attempted suicide by shooting himself in the head in another hotel room.

The Hotel Melrose remained closed for most of October while Jones remained in Las Vegas trying to get his son back. He returned to Grand Junction in November to resume running the hotel.

In December, he applied to be a conservator for his wife's possessions, which included a van, the hotel and a house. He was granted conservatorship in May 1998.
Later that summer, Jones sold the Hotel Melrose and moved back to his native England to be with his son and mother.

With the discovery and identification of Bebb-Jones's remains, Grand Junction Police Chief Greg Morrison said detectives have turned over reports and evidence to Garfield County, the lead agency in the investigation.

Morrison said the break in the case should begin providing some closure to Bebb-Jones's family and a direction for investigators in a case that was cold for a long time.

"Now, at least her fate is known to us," he said. "It's no longer a case that's in limbo. We have a case with focus and direction."

Leonardo DiCaprio is attached to star in an untitled and as-yet-unscripted project about the world of Costa Rica-based casinos that operate online, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Paramount would make the film, pitched by screenwriters Brian Koppelman and David Levien, who wrote Ocean's Thirteen and the high-stakes poker film Rounders. Koppelman and Levien are also working with DiCaprio on an adaptation of the medical/crime thriller Beat the Reaper.

Days after winning Event #14, Brock 'T soprano' Parker did it all again to win his second bracelet within a week beating 1,067 players during this 3-day tournament. He entered the final table in a distant second place behind monster chipleader Joe Serock. Serock and Parker got heads up and Parker managed to get the advantage early on. Serock did battle back but Parker won crucial pots and finally finished off his opponent for a famous victory. Brock Parker now leaps to the top of the POY standings being the first double bracelet winner of 2009.

Villie Wahlbeck earned his first gold bracelet Sunday morning when he won the $10,000 World Championship Mixed tournament and finished 3rd in Event 6 ($10,000 World Championship Seven-card Stud). Villie now has 160 points in the WSOP POY standings and two cashes for a total of $645,289 so far this summer.

Jason Mercier (USA) and Phil Ivey (USA) are also near the top of the board, each having won a bracelet this year, and have 125 and 120 points, respectively.

Vitaly Lunkin (Russia), has won the most money of anyone at this year’s tournament with the first place pay out of $1.89 m at the 40th anniversary tournament and has had another small cash in Event 12. He is fourth in the POY standings with 110 points.

Bracelet winners Rami Boukai and Anthony Harb, who have each cashed in another event this year, are tied for 5h with 105 points.

Daniel Negreanu, Jim Geary, Steve Sung, Thang Luu, Brock Parker, Ken Aldridge, Keven Stammen, Freddie Ellis and Travis Johnson all have 100 points.

Deuce to Seven Draw Lowball (No-Limit) was the variant for event 8 and many believe this is the purest form of poker due to its great bluffing capabilities.

Rule 96 Invoked at the WSOP - Event 6 Seven Card Stud

The $10k Seven-Card Stud World Championship Day 2 was supposed to play down to the final 8 from a starting field of 101 players.That plan went a bit awry when 11 players were still alive at 3am.

The late hour triggered an application of Rule 96 from the 2009 World Series of Poker Tournament Rules.

Rule 96 states that no Day 2 will be required to play past 3am unless the final table is to be broadcast on television or the internet.

So as 7 card stud isn't one of the ESPN broadcasted events the last 11 players were sent to bed last night without knowing which eight would be seated at the final table.
They'll return today on two tables, ready to play all the way down to a champion.

Daniel Negreanu managed to nurse a depleted stack of 9,000 chips 4 hours into the day yesterday and rode it all the way back to 191k chips with a chance to make the final 8.

The Final Table Make Up...

Vitaly Lunkin (Russia)- Moscow 4.5m chips
Russian Vitaly Lunkin has earned over $750,000 in tournament winnings since making his first cashes in his native Moscow earlier this decade. Lunkin has since made several final tables at other events in Europe. In the World Series of Poker, Lunkin cashed in the Main Event in 2006, earning $14k for his 829th place finish. Then in 2008 Lunkin broke through and won his first WSOP bracelet, taking one of the $1,500 NL Holdem tourneys (Event 27). That day, Lunkin was the last one standing of the 2,706 entrants, earning himself a $628k payday.

This will be Stern's second World Series of Poker cash after having made it to the round of 32 in last summer's $10k World Championship Heads-Up No-Limit Holdem Event. Lex started at the penny tables at the end of 2003 before moving his way up in stakes. Today Veldhuis is a fixture at the higher-stakes online games where he has achieved numerous big tourney scores while also succeeding at the cash tables. He has over $100,000 in live tournament earnings, including 4 cashes during the last two WSOPs in various holdem events. Apparently Lex is currently dating Evelyn Ng ( a lady I sat near to in the RIO last year - stunning!)

Justin Bonomo (USA) - Las Vegas 1.6m chips
In less than 3 years since turning 21, Justin 'ZeeJustin' Bonomo has amassed over $1.8 m USD in tournament winnings. Bonomo has cashed 7 times at World Poker Tour events, and has five WSOP cashes in the 2 years he has played. More recently, Bonomo won the $5k WSOP-Circuit Championship Event at Caesars Place in April, earning $227k for doing so. This is Bonomo's third WSOP, and already he has had a couple of near-misses in his quest to earn his first WSOP gold bracelet. In 2007, Bonomo finished fourth in the $2k No-Limit Holdem Event eventually won by William Durkee, earning $156k. And last summer at the 2008 WSOP, Bonomo came even closer, finishing runner-up to Erick Lindgren in the $5k buy-in Mixed Holdem (No-Limit/Limit) Event, winning $230k. Many people still don't like him for his multi-accounting notoriety online but apparently he is one of hundreds who have done this which is one of the reasons why it is so hard to win a big Sunday event.

Tony Philips showed the Geordies how it is done and beat a strong final table line up to win the Newcastle leg of the GUKPT Poker tour. The likeable PokerVerdict sponsored played showed the site that their faith in him had not been misplaced as he brought home the trophy and a £44k first place prize. Steve Jelinek finished 2nd with the impressive Henning Granstad in 3rd.

Meanwhile North of the border Aberdeen and Glasgow battled it out over the birthplace of the most famously recognised Scot of them all Simpsons character - Groundskeeper Willie.
Back in 2005 Willie headed a poll of most recognised Scot worldwide beating James Bond star Sean Connery and Ewan MacGregor in a newspaper poll.

Love him or hate him he is the kind of player that needs to be profiled due to the way he polarises opinion across the poker forums. One thing is for sure he has 'bigger balls' than most of the poker players out there but his aggressive play sometimes backfires and people in the know will call him down light as he fires a third or fourth bullet at big pots with nothing.

Three 3rd place finishes on the EPT tour including one bad beat at the San Remo event (which would have seen him go on to win his first EPT title) proves that he has learnt to time his aggression. Minieri got a lot of airtime at the WSOP main event when at one stage he was chipleader (back in 2007).

I never got a chance to properly update the blog as poker was the last thing on my mind after busting out - yet again - so late on day 1. I lost every early race KK into AQ ( A on turn vs a smallstack) and earlier had lost another chunk Q 10 vs Q 9 - yep a 9 on the turn.Spent the first 3-4 hours sitting next to Julian Thew who was yo-yoing up and down the first few levels.He is a class player though and when short stacked managed to double up every time.
I eventually ended up getting moved to a very young 'internet type' table with Jack Powell (DrFun on Party)and several twenty something's with 30k+ stacks. At this stage I only had 2.5k chips but I managed to double , double again , then double again getting up to nearly 30k chips.

Earlier I had been playing with Chris Moorman's dad (Simon Moorman) - known on some forums as Moorman2. There was a lot of banter going around on who would last longer. The Internet sensation Moorman1 or his Dad Moorman2 who was playing only his second live tournament. Chris had paid his Dad into the event as a birthday treat.

I shared a coke with Moorman2 as the valet had brought a drink for a busted player so was hoping for some of the legendary Moorman outdrawing magic but it never transferred across.

Anyway I can tell you that Moorman2 went on to be the massive chip leader on the final table and took a chop close to £60k GBP when 5 or 6 players were left. Will post more information later.

GUKPT Manchester Playing Main Event Day 1B

Decided to play a £111.00 ten seater sit and go for a ticket to the GUKPT Main Event and managed to win the seat after a marathon heads up battle that lasted 4 levels. (20 mins levels).

I offered the young Scottish chap a 20% saver swap before we started heads up play and perhaps he saw that as a sign of weakness in me and said that he had shares with his friends so no thanks! The irony was I busted his friend in 3rd when I filled up with Aces and 4's having flopped a set of aces whilst my opponent fished for his flush which hit on the river but consequently pairing the board housing me up.

My heads up opponent was a very good player and the chip lead chopped and changed. I got a streak of cards at the end of the 1600/800 level and battered his chip stack down where it was soon push or fold level. I only made 1 major gamble and that was when he shoved when the blinds ticked over to 2k/1k where I had a 5-6k chip lead. I knew he would try and steal at this point and I sensed weakness snap calling with KJ to his Q5. It was a big call but I felt it was the right decision and he never improved with me hitting a J on the river for good measure.

Maybe next time he will reconsider a 20% saver as I know I would if offered in this position.

Well the blog will have to wait for a day or so as I travel down to London with a friend tomorrow to watch Everton play Manchester United at Wembley in the second FA Cup final. I will probably have a stab at the Sunday Milion on stars if the internet connection in my room is ok. Some big changes will be coming allowing me to do some big changes to the blog and getting the profiles even more refined than what they are at the moment.

She is well known as a TV presenter initially hosting two series of the World Series of Backgammon, Kara was then lured over by the shuffle of cards. After shining on Poker Night Live and Sky Poker, she was quickly snapped up by PokerStars where she currently works as their acclaimed EPT host. The following principle is key to becoming a successful poker player. Without the proper money management skills, the best players in the world would go broke. For all you skim-readers, here are the basic rules of bankroll management for Texas Hold'em.

40 buyins for NL Hold'em.
300 Big Blinds for Limit Hold'em.
40 buyins for SnG Tournaments.

Bankroll management is where you play at certain limits to avoid losing all of your bankroll due to bad runs of cards, which any poker player must expect from time to time. This is called ‘playing within your roll’ (bankroll). Conversely, if you play at higher limits where there is too great a chance of losing all of your poker money, you are ‘playing out of your roll’.

The reason why you should choose your limits carefully in poker is due to what is known as variance. Variance is a term used to describe the ‘ups and downs’ of poker where you fluctuate from having bad runs of cards to good runs of cards, resulting in varying profits and losses. If you play poker for long enough there are going to be periods of time where you will consistently lose money, not because you are playing badly, but because the cards are not falling your way. This means that if you do not have enough money in your bankroll to absorb these downswings, it is likely that you will lose it all.

Therefore every time you sit down at the poker table, whether it be live or online, we want to give ourselves the best opportunity to win a maximum amount of profit whilst keeping the risk of going broke minimal. This is where the rules of bankroll management come into play.

So what limits should I be playing at?

Cash Games
If you are playing Pot Limit or No Limit poker, the safe recommended size of your bankroll is 20 times the full buy-in of where you want to play. This means that if you want to have the best chance of making money at a $1/$2 game where the maximum buy-in is $200, you should have a bankroll of at least $4000. Another way of applying bankroll management is by only putting a maximum 5% of your entire bankroll on the table at any one time, which works out the same as having 20 times the buy-in for the game.

If you like to play limit Holdem however, you should have 300 Big Bets as a minimum for the limit you wish to play at. Therefore to play $2/$4 limit Holdem, you should have a bankroll of $1,200 at least.

Decided to play the SCOOP Razz mid stakes event and enjoyed it. After 6hrs I managed to get up into 24th position and was looking good for a deep finish. Then 1 sick beat on the river set me short stacked before the bubble. Then had a real twat called thegosu2 who tried to tilt me after a poorly judged 5th and 6th street call by me. Anyway finished 77th in the money but not good enough to rebuild the bankroll. Had the pleasure of doubling through thegosu2 twice and busting him out in 93rd place. Along the way had Chad Brown (ChadBrownPRO)on the first table , Justin Bonomo(ZeeJustin) on the second table and Danny Ryan (THE_D_R_Y)on the third table. All pros I will profile on here over the next 2-3 weeks.

Plus I busted aprilsfool twice again tonight in some satellites.Have been getting the better of him this past 4-6 weeks.

Good to see James Dempsey shooting up the online poker rankings(MKKMOO) he just came 2nd in the SCOOP 08 midstakes event for $211k USD. Well done mate. First time I played James was back in the GUKPT Bolton in Jan 2007.He is now well in the top 100 players according to pocketfives ranking system.

Love him or hate him he now rates as Australia's top ranking poker player even though other's would argue that players like Mel Judah or Antanas Guoga are better allround players than Hachem.
I cringed watching the coverage of his performance at the WSOP Main Event in 2008 as he bad mouthed some of the amateur players and sucked out badly twice when all in.
The top pro's often berate the play of amateurs but what irks me is that Hachem was an amateur also until his big breakthrough.

Hachem is now one of the most famous poker players in the world who made his big breakthrough at the World Series of Poker whilst still an amateur player.He had been playing many years as an enthusiastic amateur in Melbourne, Australia.His biggest cash before the WSOP in 2005 was under $4k USD before he played well in a smaller event for a cash of $25k USD then going on to win $7.5 million USD in the Main Event.

James Akenhead's breakthrough year came in 2008 when he emerged from the HitSquad stable to cement his credibility as a good player on the world poker stage.He played in Event 2 the $1500 NLHE bracelet event at the beginning of the WSOP 2008 and made the final table. He managed to see off Chris 'Jesus' Ferguson who busted in 3rd place and then completely dominated Grant Hinkle until one of the sickest final hands in poker occurred.

Hinkle raised to 350,000 with the lowly hand of Ten-four of diamonds. Akenhead re-raised to 1.2m with Big Slick. Hinkle, sick of being outplayed and on advise from his brother, shoves over the top all-in and Akenhead calls.

The flop is an unbelievable Th 4h Ts, gifting Hinkle a boat and leaving Akenhead needing running Aces or Kings. His fate was sealed when the ten of clubs fell on the turn, giving Hinkle quad tens! Not only was there a coveted bracelet at stake, the difference between first and second place was over $300,000!
